Why you'll love this trip
See Old Delhi the way locals do
We move through its narrow lanes by rickshaw and on foot—past spice shops, hidden courtyards, and into Delhi's oldest mosque—where everyday life and centuries of history unfold side by side.
Experience the Taj Mahal beyond the postcard
We spend time understanding the details that make it extraordinary—the shifting light on white marble, the intricate inlay work, and the subtle optical illusions built into its design.
Walk through royal Rajasthan at Amber Fort
From hilltop views to the glittering Sheesh Mahal, this is a glimpse into a world of mirrors, mosaics, and stories that once lit palace halls by candlelight.
Pause the pace in rural Rajasthan
Away from the cities, we slow down at a heritage property where evenings are quiet, meals are unhurried, and the beauty lies in worn walls, open courtyards, and the feeling of being far from anywhere else.
Travel with intention, not rush
This itinerary is carefully paced to show you India's most loved sights while leaving space for real moments—conversations, shared meals, and time to simply take it all in.

Is this trip right for you?
This is a short, thoughtfully packed journey—the most compact Golden Triangle trip we run in this style. It's ideal if you're short on time but curious to experience as much of India as possible without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
India can be warm, especially during the summer months. We plan walking tours early in the day when temperatures are more comfortable, but it's important to come prepared. Carry water with you, wear a hat, and bring sunscreen and lightweight clothing that offers sun protection—you'll thank yourself later.
Travelling with Chalo Folks also means travelling with awareness and respect. We'll be visiting temples and culturally significant spaces, where modest clothing is required. Please pack outfits that cover your shoulders and arms, and fall below the knee—this small effort goes a long way in creating meaningful, respectful interactions with the people and places we visit.
If you enjoy fast-paced days balanced with cultural moments, are open to different ways of life, and like travelling in a small, mindful group—this trip will feel right at home.
Accommodation
You'll be staying in a mix of comfortable hotels (6 nights) and one heritage property (1 night)—chosen for their location, character, and overall experience rather than just star ratings. The heritage stay is a highlight, offering a glimpse into India's slower, more atmospheric side.
The accommodation listed in the day-by-day itinerary is a guideline. On rare occasions, availability may require us to make a change, but rest assured—we'll always arrange an alternative of a similar standard and comfort.
We do our best to have rooms ready when we arrive, especially if we're reaching a destination early in the day. That said, early check-in isn't always guaranteed. When rooms aren't immediately available, you'll be able to store your luggage, stretch your legs, and start exploring—or, on some days, use shared day rooms until your room is ready.
It's all part of travelling in real places, and we make sure it's handled smoothly so you can focus on settling in and enjoying the journey.

“This was exactly what I was looking for - authentic cultural experiences, not just ticking off monuments. The cooking class was phenomenal, and staying with a local family for lunch gave me insights no guidebook could. The artisan workshops were fascinating. Anna's knowledge of history and culture is impressive, and the small group (we were 8) felt like traveling with friends. The heritage properties were beautiful. Highly recommend this thoughtful, well-paced tour!”

“As someone who's traveled extensively in Asia, this tour still managed to surprise me. The depth of cultural experiences was remarkable - the cooking class, artisan visits, and walking tours with local historians brought India to life in ways I hadn't experienced before. The pace was perfect, never feeling rushed. Accommodations were charming with character. The group dynamic was wonderful - all curious, respectful travelers. An enriching, memorable journey.”

“Excellent trip with a great balance of activities. As an Indian-American, I thought I knew India well, but this tour showed me aspects I'd never experienced. The artisan workshops and home cooking class were highlights. The historical narratives at monuments were detailed and engaging. Only minor complaint was some early mornings, but they were worth it for experiences like the Taj at sunrise. Overall fantastic value and would recommend to anyone wanting to truly understand India.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this tour focus on 'cultural immersion'?
Unlike typical tours that rush through monuments, we emphasize meaningful interactions with local people, artisans, and families. You'll participate in cooking classes, visit craftsmen's workshops, walk through neighborhoods with local guides, and have meals in homes - experiences that reveal the real India beyond tourist sites.
Is this trip suitable for older travelers or those with limited mobility?
This trip has an 'Easy to Moderate' activity level with flexible pacing. While there's walking involved (markets, monuments), we take breaks and move at a comfortable pace. Some monuments have stairs, but alternatives are available. If you have specific mobility concerns, please contact us to discuss accommodations.
What's included in the cooking class?
You'll visit a local Delhi home where you'll first go to a neighborhood market with your host to select fresh ingredients. Then you'll learn to prepare a complete North Indian meal including roti (bread), vegetable curry, dal, and dessert. You'll enjoy the meal you've cooked with the family and learn about Indian cooking techniques and spices.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Absolutely! India offers incredible variety for all diets. We can easily accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs. Please inform us during booking of any restrictions, allergies, or preferences, and we'll ensure delicious suitable meals throughout.
What should I pack for this trip?
Comfortable walking shoes are essential. March/April weather is warm (75-90°F/24-32°C) - bring light, breathable clothes. Modest clothing for religious sites (covered shoulders, knees). A scarf/shawl is useful. Sunscreen, hat, reusable water bottle, and day pack for excursions. We'll send a detailed packing list upon booking.
How much spending money should I bring?
Budget $200-400 for the week depending on shopping and optional activities. This covers tips (budget $80-100 for guides/drivers), souvenirs, drinks, extra snacks, and optional experiences. Most major purchases can be paid by card, but cash (INR) is needed for markets and small vendors.
Are tips included in the price?
Tips/gratuities are not included to allow you to tip based on service quality. As a guideline: $6-8/day for your main guide, $4-5/day for driver, $1-2 per service for hotel staff and local guides. We'll provide detailed tipping guidelines before departure.
Can I take photos everywhere?
Photos are allowed at most places. Some monuments charge a small camera fee ($2-5). Photography may be restricted inside certain religious sites and museums. We include a professional photography session at the Taj Mahal! Otherwise, feel free to capture memories - your guides will help you find the best photo spots.
