Day-by-Day Itinerary

01

Arrival in Delhi

Namaste and welcome to India. Your journey begins in Delhi — busy, layered and full of contrasts. After settling in, we gather in the evening for a welcome meet-up around 6:00 pm, where you'll meet Anna, your host for the trip, and the rest of your fellow travellers. It's a relaxed chance to get to know one another, walk through the days ahead, and ease into the rhythm of the journey. Once we're done, you're welcome to join the group for an optional dinner at a local restaurant — a casual first taste of the city and a perfect way to kick things off together.

Old Delhi Explorations

Today we explore Old Delhi, moving through the city the way locals do. We begin on the Delhi Metro, then switch to a cycle rickshaw that takes us into the lively lanes of Chandni Chowk. Along the way we visit Jama Masjid, Delhi's oldest mosque, before stopping at Sheeshganj Gurudwara to learn about the Sikh faith and its history. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy — if you'd like suggestions for dinner, Anna will be happy to recommend her favourite local spots.

After arriving, we settle into the hotel and take some time to rest before heading out for the afternoon. Later, we visit Agra Fort with a local guide, exploring its grand courtyards, royal chambers and river-facing balconies that once housed generations of Mughal emperors. The fort offers a fascinating glimpse into the ambition, artistry and power of one of history's greatest dynasties. Widely considered one of the world's greatest architectural achievements, the Taj is even more magical in the quiet hours of dawn. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, the morning is yours to slow down and recharge — guests who wish to can enjoy an optional spa session before we head back out. Later, we visit Sheroes' Hangout, a café run as a social initiative supporting survivors of acid attacks — a meaningful space that blends powerful stories with great food and community spirit. We then continue to one of Agra's oldest carpet-making workshops, where skilled artisans handweave intricate rugs using techniques passed down through generations. With Anna and a local guide, we take a gentle walk through the village, passing temples, homes and everyday scenes, with time to sample seasonal local sweets made from ingredients like petha, jaggery and gazak. In the evening we settle into a restored heritage property, ending the day with comforting, home-cooked Indian food full of authentic flavours.

Why you'll love this trip

See Old Delhi the way locals do

We move through its narrow lanes by rickshaw and on foot—past spice shops, hidden courtyards, and into Delhi's oldest mosque—where everyday life and centuries of history unfold side by side.

Experience the Taj Mahal beyond the postcard

We spend time understanding the details that make it extraordinary—the shifting light on white marble, the intricate inlay work, and the subtle optical illusions built into its design.

Walk through royal Rajasthan at Amber Fort

From hilltop views to the glittering Sheesh Mahal, this is a glimpse into a world of mirrors, mosaics, and stories that once lit palace halls by candlelight.

Pause the pace in rural Rajasthan

Away from the cities, we slow down at a heritage property where evenings are quiet, meals are unhurried, and the beauty lies in worn walls, open courtyards, and the feeling of being far from anywhere else.

Travel with intention, not rush

This itinerary is carefully paced to show you India's most loved sights while leaving space for real moments—conversations, shared meals, and time to simply take it all in.

Before you book you should know

Is this trip right for you?

This is a short, thoughtfully packed journey—the most compact Golden Triangle trip we run in this style. It's ideal if you're short on time but curious to experience as much of India as possible without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

India can be warm, especially during the summer months. We plan walking tours early in the day when temperatures are more comfortable, but it's important to come prepared. Carry water with you, wear a hat, and bring sunscreen and lightweight clothing that offers sun protection—you'll thank yourself later.

Travelling with Chalo Folks also means travelling with awareness and respect. We'll be visiting temples and culturally significant spaces, where modest clothing is required. Please pack outfits that cover your shoulders and arms, and fall below the knee—this small effort goes a long way in creating meaningful, respectful interactions with the people and places we visit.

If you enjoy fast-paced days balanced with cultural moments, are open to different ways of life, and like travelling in a small, mindful group—this trip will feel right at home.

Accommodation

You'll be staying in a mix of comfortable hotels (6 nights) and one heritage property (1 night)—chosen for their location, character, and overall experience rather than just star ratings. The heritage stay is a highlight, offering a glimpse into India's slower, more atmospheric side.

The accommodation listed in the day-by-day itinerary is a guideline. On rare occasions, availability may require us to make a change, but rest assured—we'll always arrange an alternative of a similar standard and comfort.

We do our best to have rooms ready when we arrive, especially if we're reaching a destination early in the day. That said, early check-in isn't always guaranteed. When rooms aren't immediately available, you'll be able to store your luggage, stretch your legs, and start exploring—or, on some days, use shared day rooms until your room is ready.

It's all part of travelling in real places, and we make sure it's handled smoothly so you can focus on settling in and enjoying the journey.

This is travel done right! I've been on many tours, but this one felt different from day one. Meeting artisan families, planting a tree, cooking with locals - these weren't tourist attractions but real connections. The accommodations were beautiful and comfortable despite being eco-friendly. Anna's passion for sustainable tourism shines through. The Taj Mahal was stunning, but honestly, the village experiences and artisan workshops moved me more. Worth every penny and my conscience is clear!

As someone who tries to travel responsibly, this trip aligned perfectly with my values. The community partnerships felt authentic, not performative. The women's cooperative visit was inspiring - buying directly from artisans who shared their stories. The farming village experience gave incredible insights into rural Indian life. All the major sites were covered too. The group was like-minded individuals passionate about sustainable travel. Highly recommend if you want meaningful travel experiences!

Exactly the kind of travel experience I was looking for! Beyond seeing beautiful places, I felt like I actually connected with India and its people. The home-hosted dinners were so special - real conversations about life, culture, and dreams. The ethical approach (no elephant rides, fair wages for artisans) mattered to me. Loved learning natural dye techniques from the women's cooperative. The monuments were spectacular, but the human connections are what I'll remember forever. Chalo Folks sets the standard for responsible tourism!

Transformative trip! I came for the Taj Mahal, but left with so much more. The depth of cultural immersion and community engagement was remarkable. Planting my tree (I got a certificate with GPS coordinates!), working alongside farmers, learning pottery from village artisans - these experiences put tourism in a new perspective. The guides were knowledgeable and genuinely cared about both our experience and community impact. Small group of 8 travelers, all amazing people. This is what travel should be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I see the Taj Mahal?

Yes — we visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise on Day 4, when the marble glows in the early light and the crowds are thinnest. You'll also explore Agra Fort, Amber Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and the highlights of Delhi and Jaipur.

How big is the group?

Small by design — a maximum of 12 travellers, hosted in person by Anna, so the group stays personal and easy to travel with.

What's the weather like in late July?

This is a monsoon-season departure. Expect warm, humid days with occasional rain showers that leave the landscape lush and green — and the famous monuments far less crowded. We keep a relaxed pace and an early start at the Taj to make the most of the cooler mornings.

Which meals are included?

Selected meals as listed in the day-by-day itinerary: lunch on Day 3, breakfast on Days 4 and 6, and dinner on Day 5. Most other meals are left free so you can explore local restaurants — Anna is always happy to recommend her favourites.

Is travel insurance required?

Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory; we collect your insurance and next-of-kin details at the welcome meet-up on Day 1. International flights and the Indian e-Visa are not included.
