2027 is a stingy year. Six of Delhi's gazetted holidays land on a Saturday or a Sunday, including Independence Day, Dussehra and Christmas. The long weekends 2027 does give you are worth guarding, because everyone else in your office has the same calendar, and the same idea.
Here is every long weekend in 2027 for Delhi, the exact days of leave that stretch them, and nine weekend getaways from Delhi matched to each one.
Quick answer: The best long weekends in 2027 are Ram Navami to Mahavir Jayanti (Thu 15 to Mon 19 April: 5 days off for 1 day of leave), Republic Day (Sat 23 to Tue 26 January: 1 day of leave), and two 9-day breaks for 3 days of leave each: Holi to Good Friday (20 to 28 March) and Bakrid to Buddha Purnima (15 to 23 May). Good Friday, Bakrid and Diwali give 3-day weekends with no leave at all.
The 2027 long weekend calendar for Delhi

Midweek holidays you can bridge: Id-ul-Fitr (Wed 10 March), Muharram (Wed 16 June) and Janmashtami (Wed 25 August). Take Thursday and Friday off after any of them and you have five days.
Lost to the weekend: Independence Day and Milad-un-Nabi (both Sun 15 August), Gandhi Jayanti (Sat 2 October), Dussehra (Sat 9 October), Guru Nanak Jayanti (Sun 14 November) and Christmas (Sat 25 December).
Id dates depend on the moon and can move by a day, so wait for the final notification before booking anything non-refundable around them.
Why you should book now, not in March
Long weekends get expensive and full in a predictable order. Leave requests pile up first: the colleague who applies in November gets the Friday, the one who asks in March gets "let's see". Train tickets open 60 days before travel and the overnight trains to the hills sell out in hours. Homestays in Jibhi, Bir and Rishikesh fill for long weekends weeks ahead and raise their rates.
So pick your weekends now, put in the leave before your team does, and book the trip as soon as the dates open.
9 weekend getaways from Delhi for 2027's long weekends
1. Jibhi, Jalori Pass & Shangarh: Ram Navami to Mahavir Jayanti (15 to 19 April)
Five days off for one day of leave, in the best month for the Banjar valley. By mid-April the snow has usually cleared from Jalori Pass, the forests are green and the nights are cold enough for a bonfire. Hike to the ruins of Raghupur Fort, walk to a hidden waterfall, and spend a night in Shangarh's meadow village.

Getting there: about 500 km, 11 to 13 hours by road; leave Delhi on Wednesday night. Our 3-day Jibhi, Jalori Pass and Shangarh plan has the full route.
2. Bir & Barot: Holi (20 to 23 March)
Skip the colour fights and spend Holi in the mountains instead. Late March is flying season in Bir, the rhododendrons start to bloom, and Barot's river valley is green and nearly empty. Fly from Billing if you want to, then take the slow road to a wooden cottage by the river.
Getting there: about 520 km, 10 to 11 hours to Bir. See our 3-day Bir and Barot itinerary.
3. Chopta & Tungnath: Republic Day (23 to 26 January)
If you want snow, this is the weekend for it. Chopta is a meadow camp in the Garhwal Himalaya, and the walk up to Tungnath and Chandrashila turns into a proper snow trek in January. Go with a local guide, carry microspikes and check road conditions before you leave, because fresh snowfall can close the last stretch.
Getting there: about 450 km, 10 to 12 hours by road via Rishikesh.
4. Orchha: New Year (1 to 3 January)
Want a New Year without a crowd? Orchha is a riverside town of Bundela palaces, temples and cenotaphs on the Betwa river in Madhya Pradesh, with mild January days and almost no queues. It's the rare getaway from Delhi where the journey is the easy part.
Getting there: a 4.5-hour train to Jhansi on the Gatimaan Express or Vande Bharat, then 16 km by road.
5. Rishikesh: Good Friday (26 to 28 March)
Three days, no leave, and the start of the best rafting months. Raft the Ganga in the morning, walk the ghats, and watch the evening aarti. It's close enough that you lose very little of the weekend to the road. Our guide to how many days in Rishikesh helps you plan.
Getting there: 5 to 6 hours by road, or a train to Haridwar or Dehradun.
6. Meghalaya: Holi to Good Friday (20 to 28 March)
With nine days, go further. Meghalaya in March is dry, green and mild. Walk down to the living root bridges near Sohra, see the Umngot river at Dawki while the water is still clear, and spend a night in Mawlynnong.
Getting there: a 2.5-hour flight to Guwahati, then about 3 hours by road to Shillong.
7. Landour & Mussoorie: Bakrid (15 to 17 May)
When Delhi touches 45°C, Landour is the closest cool air that still feels quiet. Walk the Chakkar loop under the deodars, eat at the old bakeries, and leave Mussoorie's Mall Road to everyone else.
Getting there: 6 to 7 hours by road, or the morning train to Dehradun and an hour's drive up.
8. Sangla & Chitkul: Bakrid to Buddha Purnima (15 to 23 May)
Nine days is enough for Kinnaur. Sangla is an apple-orchard valley on the Baspa river; Chitkul, at the end of the road, is one of the last villages before the Tibet border. May is ideal: the roads are open, the snow peaks are still white and the valley is in blossom.
Getting there: two days by road via Shimla. Break the journey at Narkanda or Sarahan.
9. Udaipur: Diwali (29 to 31 October)
If you're not going home for Diwali, Udaipur is the city to spend it in. The lakes, ghats and havelis are lit up, the weather has turned pleasant, and a three-day weekend is just enough. Our Udaipur travel guide has the essentials.
Getting there: a 1.5-hour flight, or the overnight train.

Frequently asked questions
How many long weekends are there in 2027?
For Delhi offices following the central government list, three long weekends need no leave at all: Good Friday (26 to 28 March), Bakrid (15 to 17 May) and Diwali (29 to 31 October). Four more need just one day of leave: Republic Day, Holi, Ram Navami with Mahavir Jayanti, and Buddha Purnima. New Year's Day falls on a Friday, so it's a long weekend too if your office gives it.
Which is the best long weekend of 2027?
Ram Navami to Mahavir Jayanti: Thursday 15 April is a holiday and so is Monday 19 April, so one day of leave on Friday 16 April gives you five days off in a row, in one of the best months for the mountains.
How can I get 9 days off in 2027 with only 3 days of leave?
Twice. Take Monday 22, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 March to join Holi to Good Friday (20 to 28 March). Or take Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19 and Friday 21 May to join Bakrid to Buddha Purnima (15 to 23 May).
Which 2027 holidays fall on a weekend?
Independence Day and Milad-un-Nabi (Sunday 15 August), Gandhi Jayanti (Saturday 2 October), Dussehra (Saturday 9 October), Guru Nanak Jayanti (Sunday 14 November) and Christmas (Saturday 25 December).
When should I book a long weekend trip from Delhi?
As soon as your leave is approved. Train bookings open 60 days ahead and sell out fast for long weekends, and homestays in popular hill towns fill weeks in advance. For small-group trips, apply early: seats are limited and early-bird prices go to the first few travellers.
